ANT wordt ook wel aangeduid met de term “sociology of translation”, omdat het proces, de ‘vertaalslag’ van hetgeen wordt waargenomen naar de ‘inscripties’ (beschrijvingen) van deze ‘werkelijkheid’ wordt onderzocht, alsmede de wijze waarop middels dit proces wordt vormgegeven aan die werkelijkheid.
